AUSKICK

Yes, its true... we have let Justice sign up for AFL. I can not believe I am letting my little boy play football! At least its not rugby...

Once a week he'll risk life and limb to play AFL with heaps of other kids from his school! Man, time is FLYING and my little boy is getting BIG!

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Term One ended after the Easter Parade, and we have been enjoying two weeks of school holidays. Of course we still had to work, but the Easter public holidays meant we did have some rest as well. Justice being home has been so nice - I know its "silly" but I miss him heaps while he's off at school!

These holidays, Justice had a great play date at his friend Charlie's house, but we didn't do much else. Justice was set on helping Will in the bakery. Last Saturday night he went in for the duration. It was easter Saturday, so instead of being at work by 4:30 for an early delivery (closed for the holiday weekend) I got the house to myself AND a sleep in (by Saturday's standards). This Saturday we let Justice go in for two hours only. Partially because this week I DID have the early bum crack of dawn delivery start time. However, Justice helped Will from 8:30-10:30PM. Through all the wholemeal and multigrain breads... (while I photographed for the scrapbook I am terribly behind on!)
He loves having set jobs and is surprising confident and competent regarding bread moulding. He LOVES the idea of being a helper for Will.
He weighed up malt, salt and yeast from the various recipes.

He measured dough temperatures
And recorded them for Will's records
He cut and weighed out dough for back mixes
He moulded dough along with Will
This one came out BEAUTIFUL!

He even dipped the multigrain in the seed mix (he had also ground the carraway)

Basically, he did an amazing job. And he was crushed when I made him come home with me.

He does love me though. Maybe its just not as exciting to help with bookwork?

I can not believe how big he is!

HAPPY EASTER

Hope that everyone had a HAPPY EASTER!
Justice was spoiled with chocolate eggs and bunnies, an activity book and a beautiful dragon book. I indulged in a root beer (easily as much sugar as Easter chocolate, right?)- and shockingly Will ate an entire dream bunny! Mostly we just enjoyed having a day off!!! Can you believe it? A day off! Even Will! Happy Easter indeed!

SCHOOL EASTER CELEBRATION

Justice's school had an Easter assembly this morning.

The Year 3- Year 6 students performed different sketches illustrating the events of Palm Sunday, The Last Supper, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
(There was the role of Jesus, but also the role of Judas. Do you think it is hard to get excited when your little one comes home and says they are playing Judas in the Easter assembly?)

The Prep - Year 2 students took part in an Easter bonnet parade.
This was our first Easter bonnet parade.
I sent Justice in with a hat I was happy for him to decorate...
I, of course, now see that I should have bought a straw hat or some other large rimmed thing...
Still, I thought that he looked adorable in the Easter bonnet that he made...

The proud little cutie is his Easter bonnet...

I am looking forward to the long Easter weekend (Friday and Monday being public holidays) and Justice is now on school holidays until the 21st...
Hopefully I will get all my papers written and submitted and be able to enjoy a little quiet time.
Meanwhile, we have been enjoying some rain (while others nearby are enduring some floods) and the lovely by-products of sunny rain days...

Hoping that all is well with you and yours and that your Easter is lovely!

Read a Great Email...

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning uphill... barefoot... BOTH ways...

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it! But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today --you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!!

There was no email!!! We had to actually write somebody a letter, with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! No where was safe!

There were no MP3' s or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ usually talked over the beginning and @#*% it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished and the tape would come undone -- cause that's how we rolled, dig?

We didn't have fancy crap like call waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal. If you were expecting a call, you had to physically defend the phone from anyone else trying to use it and tying up the line!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, a collections agent-- you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel!

There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning.. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove ... Imagine that!

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled.

You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980 or before!

APRIL 1st

My favourite radio station had a bit this morning about April Fool's Day. One of the hosts got up at 3AM, ransacked his living room, hid his car around the corner, and moved the computer and other electronics (of course, the plasma was heavy and installed, so he just disconnected the cables to give the right impression). He then woke up his wife to tell her they had been burglarised... and she just cuddled more deeply into the bed, reminded him they were insured and tried to fall back asleep. The poor guy was so desperately trying to get some huge reaction (either because he was miked for the show or just because he had put so much effort in...) but no dice...

In the past I have had a few pranks blow up on me. Sure, there were the priceless successes - sewing the arms and legs of all of Barnyard's uniforms closed right before inspection, and then "accidentally" spilling the coffee on him so he had to (try to) change... Or convincing Deanna that Boone was in a prank war with her and was probably coming to get her... we had to sleep with desk drawers open (and blocking the door). The best part of that was ransacking his room with her (mountains of star confetti in his dress uniform pockets!)... Actually, I did heaps of devious boat pranks -- and not all for April Fool's...

But this year I am taking it off... However, I hope you have some great April 1st stories!
